Below is a list of the types of building & construction permits required in the City of Hoover.

Commercial Construction Permit
Permit fee: For the construction value of $1 - $1,000, $50 fee, plus $8.50 per thousand or fraction thereof over $1,000.

**Required CICT Fee: $1.00 per $1,000

Erosion Control Permit: $400 (if land disturbing activity is involved) see Bond Requirements and Information.

Residential Construction Permit
Permit fee:
New, single family home - $0.00 to $1,000.00 = $50.00 fee. $1,001.00 and above is $8.50 per thousand of total cost of construction & $1,500 base fee and $100 erosion fee.

For work on an existing home - $8.50 per $1,000 of the valuation of construction plus $41.50 Minimum fee = $50.

Other fees may apply for sewer and for zoning fees depending on the location of construction.

Mechanical Permit Mechanical permits are required for all mechanical work performed in the City of Hoover including furnace and air conditioning installation and replacements, duct installation, and gas conversions.

Repair work to existing mechanical systems does not require a permit. A licensed contractor or the property owner must, however, perform repair work to existing mechanical systems.
Permit fee: $8.50 per $1,000 of job cost, plus $41.50 issuance fee. Minimum fee =$50

Gas Permit Gas permits are required for all installations, repairs, and alterations to gas lines and gas systems. A master gas fitter must perform all work on gas lines and systems.

Alabama Gas Corporation will not set a gas meter without a release from the Hoover Inspection Services Department.

Plumbing Permit Plumbing permits are required for all plumbing work, whether repairs or new installations. A licensed master plumber or the property owner must perform the plumbing work.

Driveway Permits
Driveway Permits are issued by the city's Engineering Department. Generally, separate driveway permits are not issued. If a driveway accesses a state, county, or federal highway, then appropriate approvals must be obtained. In addition, if the application is for access to an U.S. highway, the Alabama Department of Transportation will be involved in the approval process.
