Hoover Arbor Day
The Hoover Beautification Board organizes annual Arbor Day celebrations at public schools and at Aldridge Gardens.  These celebrations have helped to qualify Hoover as a Tree City USA since 1999.  The celebrations also educate children, youth and the general public about urban trees and the importance of maintaining a healthy urban tree canopy.

The Arbor Day Essay Contest

Hoover's Arbor Day essay contest is conducted at the 4th Grade level with all elementary schools in the Hoover City Schools System invited to participate. The Beautification Board reads and judges all the essays and determines the overall best essay and the best essay from each school. Each essay contest winner receives an assortment of prizes for their work including cash, tree identification books, an Aldridge Gardens membership, plants, etc... Prizes are provided by local sponsors and the City.

Arbor Day Ceremonies at Hoover Schools
Each of Hoover's 17 schools is encouraged to conduct an Arbor Day program, which always includes a tree planting ceremony. The Beautification Board provides a free tree to each school, and attends and assists with each event.
